The new whare for Caroline Bay is in, next task is surfacing.
The under 5s space is underway with the whare arriving on site in October.
The CPlay design team, including volunteer and Arowhenua representative Francine Spencer and CPlay volunteer and architect John Rushton have been collaborating for a truly unique and special design, inspired by stories of the area.
Some of our goals were to:
- Tailor the design to the Community.
- Create an iconic design for a destination playground.
- Custom designed to make the most of the available space.
- Educational and Thematic Elements to educate, inspire imaginative play and share stories in a genuine way.
- Designed and Built by Locals
The mahika kai themed space and whare has been constructed by locals Johnny Small Building and Totalspec for the new playground at Caroline Bay.
Double slides, fireman pole, climbing net and crawl tunnels are being installed next. These were supplied by The Playground Centre.
Thank you Rushton Architects for gifting the design of the whare to the project.
Thank you Andrew Chapman from Chapman Engineering for gifting your time to provide structural
engineering for the building.
